![]() ![]() There are several points I was not sure why they were there. There are several clichés throughout the book as our main characters are selfish teenagers, worried about the future, but not paying attention that life has consequences. Unless you count killing someone by having their penis explode. And even with teen, queer witches, I did not see anything fresh. The theme of not only accepting yourself and friends, but realizing you deserve those who love you in your life, has been done before. In fact, the whole pace of the story can be slow with a rushed and mostly incomplete, unsatisfying ending. There is a slow beginning to this teen novel. Yet, I would go onto finish, even with misgivings. But when I found it sometime later, I thought, oh why not? Not like I had to finish. I was not in the mood for witches, teen girl drama or magic. ![]() When I first looked at When We Were Magic by Sarah Gailey, I immediately put it down again. ![]()

![]() The series is bookended by issues focused on Nix and a team called Justice Incarnate, but the remainder are largely standalone stories set in different worlds of the DC multiverse. ![]() ![]() The Multiversity is more an anthology series than a singular story. In The Multiversity, Nix is called back into action as a new evil called The Gentry (beings who exist as the living embodiment of terrible ideas) threaten the entire multiverse. Once a Monitor tasked with observing one of the 52 worlds that make up the DC multiverse, Nix was reborn at the end of Final Crisis as an ordinary mortal who channels his dreams of gods and costumed heroes into his artwork. The Multiversity is a followup of sorts to Morrison's 2008 crossover Final Crisis, with the character Nix Uotan serving as the main connective tissue. ![]() ![]() ![]() Included with purchase is an audio CD with guided meditations, voiced by Myla Kabat-Zinn, who along with her husband, Jon Kabat-Zinn, popularized mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) as a therapeutic approach. After the meditation I asked them if any of them saw any ‘pictures’ or ‘movies’ in their mind while sitting still. It was great to see that all the children were closing their eyes and sat still for a while, I can see they are starting to get familiar with the frog meditation. The book contains eleven practices that focus on just these scenarios, along with short examples and anecdotes throughout. We started the lesson with sitting still and noticing feelings. In a simple and accessible way, it describes what mindfulness is and how mindfulness-based practices can help children calm down, become more focused, fall asleep more easily, alleviate worry, manage anger, and generally become more patient and aware. This little book is a very appealing introduction to mindfulness meditation for children and their parents. Mindfulness-the quality of attention that combines full awareness with acceptance of each moment, just as it is-is gaining broad acceptance among mental health professionals as an adjunct to treatment. Includes a 60-minute audio CD of guided exercises read by Myla Kabat-Zinn. Simple mindfulness practices to help your child (ages 5-12) deal with anxiety, improve concentration, and handle difficult emotions. ![]() ![]() ![]() Though he’s one of the most powerful characters in the DC Universe, he disappears for long stretches, and every time he reappears he seems to get a new origin story. Serlio’s books on architecture catalogued buildings from Ancient Rome in plans, elevations and perspectives, before describing the typological-form of temples: circular, square, six-sided, eight-sided, oval and cruciform. For example, in De re aedificatoria Alberti distinguished between public and private buildings in the city, assigning the Orders to certain classes of building. ![]() Although not all of these works use the word typology, or type, the concept is implied because each use classification, description, and historical precedent to formulate a position. As can be seen in canonical texts since Vitruvius, such as those by Alberti, Serlio, Palladio, during the Renaissance, to Durand during Enlightenment, Hilberseimer in the early twentieth-century, Rossi in the 1960s and others, we can view the process of architectural history unfolding, treatise to treatise, manual to manual, and manifesto to manifesto. Typology in architecture gives us an apparatus to study the history of architecture, which can also be understood as a way to examine the collective memory of the city. ![]() ![]() ![]() You can find out more about the “Vegas Top Guns” and “Club Devant” series at or at You can also contact Lorelie on Twitter.
